May 6 (Mon) – Update

Yesterday was awesome.

update-hand-holding-sign.pngI planned on fixing the canvas top for the patio. I did that. I planned on going to Vander Veer. Did that. Didn’t get to the extension cords, here’s why:

.

24-05-06-canvas-top-repair.jpgI started on the canvas oh, around mid-morning. I chose one of Kim’s older sewing machines, the one I recently adjusted the needle position on. It was a cloudless spring day, t-shirt weather. I ended up putting on a long-sleeve shirt because the sun was intense. Better that than chemicals.

.

I struggled with the sewing machine for various reasons: I chose the wrong thread. The needle was incorrect for the project. I didn’t realize there was no pressure foot attached to the machine until an embarrassingly long time. I snaked the top thread through all the gadgets incorrectly. Finally had success on some practice pieces of fabric. I got down to work.

.

I was finally making progress when all three dogs went into a panic at the front gate. I mean full-on panic. I looked over - it was Roxy and her two humans!

.

We met Roxy once before at Vander Veer. She was taking her humans Bob and Stacey (from coffee) for a walk. Yesterday they had walked all the way from Rock Island just to see our place. So we all spent time getting caught up out there on the patio and wandering around the yard.

.

Roxy had a blast doing zoomies around the yard. Drinking from the bird bath. Sniffing things. Lying under a lilac bush in the shade. Resting in another patch of shade nose to nose with Mavis. Gently playing with Willow. It was so good to see. They’ll visit again and I’ll take pictures next time.

.

Roxy was there for about forty minutes or so. After they left I finished sewing, then ate lunch. Then Vander Veer where we hung out for quite some time. The terriers found a fresh tunnel that went across the bottom of a young tree and there was something in that short tunnel with a hole on either side of the tree. This was near the middle of the Allee.

.

A small crowd ended up stopping and watching Lydia and Mavis as they scurried around the base of the tree, back and forth, round and round. Doing what they were designed to do. A bit of digging, snouts deep in the hole and coming back up lined with fresh dirt. I gave them around 20 minutes to have their fun.

.

24-05-06-canvas-top-repair-3.jpgBack home I put up the canopy and gave it and the table and chairs a fresh water rinse with the garden hose. The canopy had shed a light-colored dry powder over everything including me. I showered. That was the day.

.

Today is another nice day out. Kyle will be over soon with Titania. He and Kim will go to his treatment, she’ll drive him home afterwards. I’ll bring Titania over to his place when Kim calls. I’ll pick her up and bring her home.

.

While they’re out and about I’ll be working on Kyle’s battery powered weed whacker which doesn’t feed string any more. And sharpening the blade for Kyle’s mower. Hopefully I do extension cords. And a trike ride would be nice. But there’s always Vander Veer… cheers!
